Ceramic Blue and White Mini Vase or Espresso Cup Abstract Design Handmade

Funky and wild abstract mini vase or espresso cup!

All clay used in the production of my pieces is reclaimed, meaning it has been recycled within the studio therefore eliminating excess waste and giving the clay a second chance to become what you now see it as!

During the trimming stage while the mug is still greenware (hasn’t yet endured its first firing), I ensured the base was perfectly curved to reduce the risk of chips, allowing for a long and durable life. I also pulled the handle, met the two ends, and attached it at this point.

Also in the greenware stage (before the first firing while the clay is still raw), I painted blue underglaze on the outside wall of the vessel. I waited for it to dry then sgraffitoed the abstract design out of the underglaze using a stylus. I don’t go into the design process with a pre thought out idea but instead just kind of go for it and bring what’s inside my brain to life! It’s much more fun this way and the results are always one of a kind.

After the first firing, the vessel was glazed. On the inside and the rim is a smooth and glassy glaze that contrasts nicely with the raw outer sidewalls. The coloring of blue and white also accentuates this contrast, adding a modern look that will go well with any home’s decor.

Once the vessel went through its second and final firing, it was officially a finished product! This fella is fully vitrified meaning it is microwave and dishwasher safe but I would highly recommend hand washing.
