Ceramic Planter Abstract Black and White Minimalist Modern Oyster Design

Very rare, and unique planter for the plant lovers out there. All clay used in the production of my pieces is reclaimed, meaning it has been recycled within the studio therefore eliminating excess waste and giving the clay a second chance to become what you now see it as! During the greenware/trimming stage I ensured the base was perfectly rounded to reduce the risk of chips, allowing for a long and durable life. Also in the greenware stage (before the first firing while the clay is still raw) I got a rounded stylus tool and drew in the design on the outside wall, paying special attention to the depth. I then got black underglaze which is basically colored slip and painted over the grooves from the stylus. Next, I got an etching tool and scraped over the top surface, leaving behind the underglaze filled grooves. To give the piece even more texture and motion, I used a carving tool to create divots on the outside wall. After the first firing, the planter was glazed. On the inside is a smooth and glassy glaze that contrasts nicely with the raw outer sidewalls. The coloring of black and white also accentuates this contrast, adding a modern look that will go well with any home’s decor and/or garden.
